April 2

April is World Autism Month, beginning with the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day today, on April 2. This year marks the 18th annual World Autism Awareness Day.

The goal of this day and month are to focus on sharing stories and providing opportunities to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism and fostering worldwide support.

The more specific purpose and goals of today and this month are to:

  • Promote Acceptance & Inclusion: We want to move beyond mere awareness to actively supporting, accommodating, and including autistic individuals in all aspects of life.
  • Celebrate Diversity: We need to recognize the unique talents, strengths, and perspectives of autistic individuals rather than viewing autism solely as a disorder.
  • Shine a Light: We need to highlight the need for early diagnosis and specialized support systems, and to be aware of the importance of accepting and supporting ALL PEOPLEin their unique needs.
  • Pizza, pizza, pizza – Please listen carefully.  Advisory teachers, please let your students know who has ordered.  A list was emailed out by the office. Students, please be ready at your classroom door with a paper towel in hand in alphabetical order and wait for a runner to take you to the pizza serving tables.  Students who have a lunch time activity can go straight to their table when the bell goes. Students in divisions 1-14, will go to the foyer and students in divisions 15-23 will go to the blue pod table

Get ready, Colquitz! It’s time to come together for an exciting school-wide competition with a powerful purpose  THE CHALLENGE: Each grade will go head-to-head to see who can collect the most toonies!  HOW IT WORKS:  Every toonie you bring in will be colour-coded by grade and proudly displayed on our school walls—watch your impact grow right before your eyes!   THE CAUSE: All funds raised will support children on Vancouver Island who are battling cancer. Your toonies will help provide: Transportation to vital treatments and  Essential hospital equipment.  WHY IT MATTERS:  This is more than just a competition… it’s Kids Helping Kids. Every toonie brings hope, support, and strength to families who need it most. LET THE CHALLENGE BEGIN!  And don’t worry, you do not have to scrounge around for toonies.  Bills are accepted!
Which grade will rise to the top? Bring your toonies. Make a difference. Show your school spirit!
