April 7

April is officially recognized as Sikh Heritage Month in Canada, celebrating the rich history, culture, and profound contributions of over 500,000 Canadian Sikhs to the nation’s social, economic, and political fabric. It highlights Sikh values of equality, community service (seva), and justice, largely coinciding with the significant festival of Vaisakhi. We will celebrate Vaisaski as a school next Tuesday with music, dancing and pakoras in the foyer.  See you there!

Get ready, Colquitz! It’s time to come together for an exciting school-wide competition with a powerful purpose: The Toonie Challenge to fight Childhood Cancer!

Almost 84% of children survive a cancer diagnosis after five years, and this survival rate is expected to improve with new and better treatments.  But they need our help to fund the research and treatments that help save lives!

THE CHALLENGE:  Each grade will go head-to-head to see who can collect the most toonies!   HOW IT WORKS:  Every toonie you bring in will be colour-coded by grade and proudly displayed on our school walls.  Watch your impact grow right before your eyes!

THE CAUSE: All funds raised will support children on Vancouver Island who are battling cancer. Your toonies will help provide: Transportation to vital treatments and essential hospital equipment.  Kids Helping Kids.  Which grade will rise to the top?  Bring your toonies or any cash for that matter. Together, we Can Make a Difference.

**Teachers:  Each of you should have received an envelope for collection and  with the instructions.  There is a box lid in each pod office where you can put the envelope each day or by Thursday end of day so amounts can be tallied and announced Friday.  Paper coins are also in the pod office  If you run low, please let Michelle Dixon know.  Please do not distribute the paper coins today for students to put up.  We will begin tomorrow when the wall space has been determined.
