Happy Ramadan, Everyone.
Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, where Muslims fast from dawn to sunset for 29-30 days to practice self-discipline, empathy for the less fortunate, and focus on faith. It is not just about skipping food; it is a time for increased charity, kindness, prayer, and community gathering.
How to Support a Muslim Peer
Don’t eat in front of them: It is polite to be mindful of not eating or drinking around them during the day, except at designated times like lunch eating and Nutrition Break.
(Students who are fasting: let Ms Schlappner know if you’d like to have an alternate place to be during lunch eating time :))
Be understanding: They might be tired during PE or extracurriculars, especially toward the end of the day.
Ask questions: It is perfectly fine to ask politely, “How is your fast going?”
Say “Happy Eid”: When the month ends, congratulate them on finishing their fast (on February 28th)
.
It’s also the Lunar New Year today!
Happy Year of the Fire Horse!
This is a time for energy, action, and new beginnings. Celebrated by over two billion people, it is a 15-day “Spring Festival” focused on family, luck, and tradition, often featuring red decorations, feasts, and the Dragon Dance. The Horse symbolizes strength and speed, encouraging students to be confident, independent, and hardworking. It ends March 3rd.
Today in Silent reading, the Culture Club will be handing out fortune cookies and Lunar New Year Napkins to celebrate. Students who are observing Ramadan can save their cookies for when they break their fast tonight 🙂
